When we’re not in rehearsal, building sets, or teaching on behalf of DCRT, our company members are thriving in (and outside of) the state! HERE’S THE LATEST NEWS:
We’re All About That Shakes!
Ezra Colón is taking the green chile to the cornhusker state and cooking it all up for the Bard this summer — he’ll be working with Nebraska Shakespeare in their productions of The Taming of the Shrew and Macbeth. Click HERE for more info on Nebraska Shakespeare!
REP TIP: Several DCRT members and friends have worked with Nebraska Shakes, including Frank Taylor Green (who starred in last summer’s production of Othello), John Hardy, and The 39 Steps director Vincent Carlson-Brown (he also happens to be the Artistic Director of Nebraska Shakespeare. #NBD)
Amelia Ampuero has been pulling double duty this spring–when she’s not in rehearsal for our upcoming production of The Drunken City, she’s in rehearsal with the Vortex Theatre for Shakespeare on the Plaza’s production of Much Ado About Nothing. But don’t be fooled–there’s nothing ado about the workload, as Amelia is portraying one of our favorite Bard heroines: Beatrice! Directed by DCRT superfriend Martin Andrews, be sure to check out the production this summer! More info HERE.
DCRT on the Silver Screen
We all know our DCRT company is no stranger to film. So it’s no surprise to hear that company member Lauren Myers teamed up with DCRT superfriends Catharine Pilafas (The Nutcracker, The 39 Steps), Elizabeth Dwyer Sandlin (The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Trust) and Amy Baklini to produce a film for the inaugural Flicks4Chicks competition. The festival aims at not only getting women in front of the camera, but behind it as well. With Pilafas directing, Dwyer Sandlin penning the short, and Baklini and Myers acting, they’re proud to have submitted “Pinky Promise” to the competition–stay tuned!
Heading Back to the Farm
We’re proud to announce that Duke City Rep is teaming up with local favorite restaurant Farm & Table to produce “Theatre on the Farm” again! For three nights in June, we’ll be collaborating with other theatre companies to create a festive night of delicious food and creative theatre.
Amelia Ampuero is directing Katie Becker Colón and Frank Taylor Green in the world premiere of Que Kerastas, Kerastas — a play written by playwright superfriend Georgina Escobar. She wrote the show specifically for this event, with both Colón and Green in mind for the parts.
We can’t wait to see this event on the ground! Performances are on June 2, 9, and 16. Stay tuned for details!

Resident Stage Manager Alicia Webb has a pretty cool job. When she’s not running shows or rehearsals, she’s an engineer on a train!
That’s right–Alicia and her husband Coleman are bonafide train conductors for the City of Albuquerque. Catch them (and a ride) at the ABQ BioPark and Zoo!

I’ll See You On The Other Side, Till We Meet Again
After 5 years as a company member, we are bittersweet to announce Lauren Myers’ departure from Duke City Repertory Theatre at the end of the 2015-2016 season. Lauren and her fiancé (DCRT superfriend Rick Galli) have decided to move to Los Angeles to continue to pursue their careers in film & television.
BUT — this doesn’t mean you won’t see either of them galavanting through the streets of the Burque or hanging out with their favorite DCRT pals. They plan on coming back every once in a while to breathe some high desert air and eat LOTS of chile!
You can also catch them on (or behind) the scenes! **some hints: “The Space Between Us” and “Wish for Christmas”!**
And straight from the fingers of Lauren:
“I’ve cherished working with DCRT for the last 6 years, and consider every single moment with them the best education I’ve ever received. It’s also some of the proudest work I’ve done, and where I’ve felt the most connected to this incredible community. I’m beyond grateful to have shared the stage and classroom with these fine professionals.
The members of DCRT are my mentors, my friends, my colleagues, and my teachers. The tools of confidence and bravery were all learned through interacting and bonding with these fearless artists. They taught me to give myself the permission to risk, to set the bar as high as I wanted and then jump for it with abandon, and to understand that the impossible is indeed possible with a little (okay, a LOT of) nerve and imagination.
Most importantly, one of the biggest tools I’m taking with me to California is servitude. Whether I’m working on stage or on film, I’m constantly reminded that my work is for you, the audience, that that is what makes great art, and what makes great art worth fighting for.
Thank you for allowing me to serve you for the past 6 seasons.”
WE WISH LAUREN AND RICK THE BEST OF LUCK ON THEIR NEXT GREAT ADVENTURE!
