Company members at Duke City Rep can frequently be seen working not only on other stages around the city and country, but also in locally filmed tv shows and movies! Here is where you can stay up to date on all of our non-DCRT projects.
2017 marks the 30th year of Shakespeare on the Green, outdoor summer performances that are open to the public in a sweeping, tree lined park in Omaha. Reppers have participated since 2015, Frank Taylor Green playing the title role in Othello and also appearing in As You Like It. In 2016, Ezra Colón was in Macbeth and Taming of the Shrew and Katie Becker Colón toured with Hamlet. Both of whom returned for the 2017 season productions of Merry Wives of Windsor and King Lear.
Shakespeare on the Plaza
Amelia Ampuero (Artistic Director) has participated for the previous two years in this annual festival, in 2017’s Macbeth and 2016’s Much Ado About Nothing and The Tempest. Put on by the City of Albuquerque and The Vortex Theatre, Shakespeare on the Plaza offers free performances of Shakespeare’s plays at Civic Plaza in downtown. Eat, drink, be merry, and watch some theatre!
Theater on the Farm
Farm and Table takes the idea of eating local to a new level. Located on a farm, this award winning restaurant serves delectable dishes comprised of foods grown on onsite, or harvested by local farmers. But that’s not all! For the third year in a row, in June the restaurant has partnered with Duke City Rep and Tricklock Company, offering three to four special performance events that take place on a beautiful stage out in the rich green growth of their crops as the sun sets. 2017’s production was co-directed by Amelia Ampuero and featured company member Ashley Daniels, along side their Tricklock collaborators in A Night in The Orchard, written by Drew Morrison. 2016’s presentation included DCRT’s Katie Becker Colón and Frank Taylor Green, 2015 featured Ezra Colón, both shows were directed by Amelia Ampuero.
As proud supporters of local film, DCRT welcomed the short film, Seagull, to film at their rehearsal space. Directed by Catharine Pilafas (a DCRT guest artist) and assistant directed by Ashley Daniels (DCRT Director of Marketing), this film debuted in October 2016.
DCRT is proud and honored to have joined local theatre company Blackout Theatre for their second and third annual interactive haunted houses “Quarantine: Origins” and “Quarantine: The Curse”. Several members of the Duke City Rep company volunteer to work with Blackout. Whether we’re romping and stomping through the cornfields at Rio Grande Community Farm or create chilling scenes at Expo New Mexico, attendees find themselves screaming in delight during the entire experience. Company members Amelia Ampuero, Frank Taylor Green, Katie Becker Colón all worked on the independent feature film Dead Billy, which was produced by former company member Lauren Myers and local DCRT Superfriend/filmmaker Scotty Milder. The film had its west coast premiere at the Paragon Film Festival in Los Angeles in October 2016. For more information, visit the website at www.deadbillythemovie.com.
